The keys to successful animal husbandry are maintaining a safe enriching environment, feeding appropriate types and quantities of food, and providing necessary medical care. In this presentation I will expand on these three areas. People contemplating getting sheep/goats will come away with an understanding of how to avoid some of the pitfalls experienced by many new owners. People who have had sheep/goats for awhile will hopefully come away with some information to boost the health level of their flock/herd.
Dr Dennis Thibeault received his BS in Biology from Fairfield University and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University in 1994. He started Green Valley Veterinary Services in Mansfield CT in 2008. He and his team provide mobile veterinary care for farm animals throughout Eastern CT and most of Rhode Island. Their primary focus is pet and hobby livestock, and also do home euthanasia for dogs and cats. Dr Thibeault is also certified in Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue.
The Connecticut Veterinary Medical Foundation (CVMF) is the charitable and service arm of the veterinary community of Connecticut, the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). CVMF was created to support education, scholarship and service programs that improve animal health, and public health, in Connecticut. The leadership of CVMA veterinarians makes CVMF unique, facilitating a scientific approach to animal issues and identifying and implementing solutions with the broadest possible impact. CVMF exists to make Connecticut a better place for animals and people. Our vision is to be a safety net for Connecticut’s domestic animals.
